Sunday. 12.12.10

So today is the Virgen’s birthday, and if we didn’t know, we would’ve figured something was up, because starting at midnight last night the fireworks started and did not stop! All throughout the night they were going off, at times it woke us up, it sounded like they were bombing a nearby village! And on into the morning, and on into the afternoon …. ALL DAY LONG - you could hear fireworks, bombas!!
While I played catch up on our computer chores (journal and pictures) the kids come around and remind Josue about the swing he promised to make them. So, he puts that same rope back to use again, and makes them a rope swing off of an avocado tree that’s in between the two properties here. Another way to have fun with a rope! And it kept them all entertained for a couple hours! Only one casualty and little Tiffany bounced back quick!
Then in the afternoon we walked down to the church here in San Francisco with Tia Vero to see the parade. There is a parade on this day to honor the Virgen and the man who she appeared to, Juan Diego, an indigenous man. So they dress up the little kids to look like him and then they carry a statue of the Virgen down the street and sing songs.
The kids all looked so cute. The little girls have their baby dolls attached to them in a blanket, just the way you still see some ladies carrying their babies.
After this we walked to Buena Vista to go see the Abuelos because someone stopped by yesterday with a message that Abuelita wanted to see us sometime today. We stayed and visited for a bit then hit the road since it’s getting dark and that road we walk to get back home is a little crazy when the cars go through.
A quick stop at home and we realized we still needed to get a few things from the store. So we took a cab to Villa to do our shopping. And for the first time in over a week of being sick, we stopped off at our favorite puesto for some tacos al pastor. We’re glad to be feeling better FINALLY, but our appetite has definitely gone way down. I had one and Josue had two!
Good thing we had a nice walk home ahead of us to work off those tacos! The air at night here is quite cool and feels good to be walking then.
