Friday. 1.14.11 Laundry Day and making a new friend!

Today was laundry day! We started doing laundry yesterday, but only got one load done. So today, we decided to go down the street to a laundry mat so we could get it all done in one day, dried and everything, that way we wouldn’t have to worry about it during the weekend and could play and do whatever.
At the laundry mat, the girl who owned it, helped get us set up. She was very friendly and as we were waiting for our loads, we realized she was quite chatty. We began talking about our trip and her reaction to it was cute, very sincere, when she said wow that sounds like an adventure, a little crazy, but cool. Her name was Laura and in talking to her, it almost felt like she was somebody we’ve known for a while. She was real easy to talk to, infact, she has family from California, so there was another level to relate to. In conversation, she has asked us how we’re liking the food here, and if we eat spicy food. The next thing we know, she brings out a plate of food for us, and says “con confianza, probecho” (with confidence, enjoy)… she said because she was going to eat and she didn’t want to be rude, she wanted to share. We said, thank you, but don’t worry about it, we understand it’s your lunch time. She insisted we try it, saying to be sure to try these chiles, “no pican, pero estan sabrosos” (they‘re not spicy, just real good). We had just eaten, but if you know us, it doesn’t take much to twist our arms into eating, and of course we didn’t want to be rude! It was flautas and beans, with a red salsa and pickled chiles manzanos. Very good! We had to ask Laura, do you feed all your customers? She said no, only the ones she likes. Either way, we thought it was such a sweet gesture.
So, we ended up getting laundry and lunch in one! And we haven’t minded much air drying our clothes down here, but I have to admit, it was kind of nice getting things dried in the dryer again, especially our towels.
