Thursday. 12.30.10 Abuelita Cata’s and an early New Year’s Celebration with Tias Matilde y Mika

Today we had plans to go hang out with the Abuelos again. When we got there Abuelita was cooking up fresh tortillas on her clequil. That always smells so good! She put on some tomatillos & a chile manzano on there to cook up. Josue was going to be her helper in the kitchen today, and got on the task of making agua de limon. After that, she handed him the tomatillos and chile and he made a salsa in the molcajete. When he was done, she was finished making the tortillas and we had a lunch of caldo de pollo, fresh tortillas, beans and she toasted a few tortillas on the comal for “tostadas” and fresh salsa.
When we were just finishing up Tia Matilde and her two boys Pepe y Santiago arrived. Then a little while later Tia Mika and her son Kevin got there. They seemed to get right on to making more food. I was a little confused because we had just finished eating. But what we didn’t know is apparently they had planned to go over and make a dinner, to celebrate New Year’s a little early with the Abuelitos. So that was the food they were preparing now. Abuelita had let them know we were going to be there.
So it was a nice surprise to see the Tias and little cousins that we hadn’t gotten to spend too much time with yet. But unfortunately since we didn’t know, we had plans with Tia Vero in the late afternoon after she got out of work. So we had to slip away for a little bit. But when we got back, we ate dinner, they had made baked chicken with a stuffing of ham, epazote, chiles manzanos, and pineapples. It was very tasty, then we had to say bye to Tia Mika who had to take Kevin to the doctor.
We stayed a while longer visiting with Tia Matilde and Abuelita, until Tia said she needed to get the boys home. So we offered to give them a ride home. Which was a good chance for Josue to remember the way.
When we got there, we hung out for a little while with her and her husband. Tio showed us around to his flowers, and Tia showed us how she’s been remodeling her rooms. It was a very nice visit.
When we get back home, we find all the kids there waiting for us - with their money, ready for round two of Blitz! And this time they didn’t want to play with three and a free ride - they said this time for four coins - they’re so funny!
Josue won again! And we had a lot of fun taking their money again!
